A home for a global community where everyone belongs.IAAT Motto

This website is truly the home of a diverse and magnificent community!

Since its founding, the I Am a Triangle community has offered unparalleled support and insight to individuals around the world. Our community began in September 2013 with a mere 30 “Triangles.” It grew organically inside of a closed facebook group to well over 15,000 members in early 2017. In August of 2017, the website and new community platform was launched, fulfilling a forward thinking vision to further the reach of the I Am A Triangle community.

WHO IS BEHIND IT ALL

What began as a one-woman operation running a private facebook group, the I Am a Triangle community has become a movement. We now have a part-time intern, more than 70 leaders located across the globe, and a host of other members providing a variety of support services. Our rate of growth and change is unmatched by any other online community like ours.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER, NAOMI HATTAWAY

I was born to a white mother and a black father … in the years when it still wasn’t quite okay to be bi-racial.  I was homeschooled … in the years when it wasn’t quite legal to do so. I left home at the age of 16 (some may say it was because of my parents’ divorce or you might just reckon it was because I was headstrong and stubborn) and got pregnant with my first child a year later, and found myself a young mom at the age of 18. From as early as I can remember, I’ve been on a quest to find and create community, and to find like-minded people who can share in my experiences.

My family is now made up of my husband, my oldest and two younger children (plus 3 dogs and 2 cats).  We moved all over the United States and then after the youngest was born, moved to New Delhi, India.  After living in India for three years, we relocated to Singapore.  Then after one year there, we moved back to our “Forever Home” in Florida, USA. Except, it wasn’t so forever. We moved to the Northern Virginia area in July of 2014 and in October of 2016, moved again to Columbus, Ohio. I’m hoping we stay put while our children finish high school, but my feet are itchin’ to get back overseas again!

I manage a real estate team in Northern Virginia and oversee a nation-wide network of amazing real estate professionals in the United States as well as steward the I Am A Triangle community. Volunteering is important to me and I serve on a number of boards, including Families in Global Transitions and Sea Change Mentoring.

OUR STORY

This community was created for those who have lived in various cultures and countries, whether as children, teens or adults. Going from one culture/country (as a circle) to a second culture/country (the squares) forms a “shape” more like a Triangle. Is that you? To understand the backstory of the group and the origin of the name “I Am A Triangle,” please read concept that started the community.

WHAT WE OFFER

This companion website offers a broad range of additional services to the Triangle community—from workshops, courses, and webinars to expert advice columns, an all-in-one round-up of the best travel insights, and “global nomad” items to purchase in our shop, including travel gear, books, jewelry, clothes, and more.

Our lively forums offer opportunities for research, data collection, and the ability to archive the vast experiences being shared inside our group on a daily basis.

Inside our free membership area, you will be able to locate other Triangles in locations where they are planning to travel or potentially relocate. In addition, through partnerships with Relocate Guru and Mark Your World, our triCONNECT city locations will soon become more robust and immensely enhanced by providing local, “on the ground” intel to help individuals and families make more informed decisions about their next relocation.

We are also developing the philanthropic arm of the Triangle community and are pleased to announce that a percentage of all monies brought in by the website will be donated internationally to organizations working to make the world a better place.
